Hit Me Baby One More Time

The date is October 3. Three of the most exciting "new" bands are set to release their sophomore albums on the same day. Their debut albums have been big sellers, each of them spawning a slew of hit singles and winning tons of accolades. Will lightning strike twice and will their second album be as big as their first?

The Killers: Sam's Town

Their debut album, Hot Fuss, was released only two years ago in 2004. It signalled a new beginning for rock music, paving the way for copycat bands such as The Bravery and Fall Out Boy. Hot Fuss contained the hits Somebody Told Me, Mr. Brightside, All These Things That I've Done and Smile Like You Mean It, propelling the album to sales of 5 million copies worldwide.

Along the way, they have also performed at the biggest musical extravaganza in recent times, Live 8, and notched up 5 Grammy nominations, 3 Billboard Music Awards nominations and won one MTV Video Music Award.

First single off the new album is When You Were Young.

Evanescence: The Open Door

Could the title be a reference to guitarist/co-founding member, Ben Moody, who walked out of the door abruptly in the midst of their European tour in 2003? Whatever it means, The Open Door will most likely sound quite different from its predecessor, Fallen, as Ben Moody played an integral part of the songwriting and composing process, together with lead singer Amy Lee.

Fallen generated the mega hits Bring Me To Life, My Immortal, and two smaller hits Going Under and Everybody's Fool. The album also won them Grammies for Best Hard Rock Performance and the coveted/cursed Best New Artiste award. Fallen has sold 14 million copies worldwide.

First single off The Open Door is Call Me When You're Sober.

Jet: Shine On

This rock band from Melbourne appeared out of nowhere in 2003 and took the world by storm with their debut album, Get Born. Featuring dirty guitars and an old-school rock-and-roll sound, the album featured the hit singles Are You Gonna Be My Girl, Cold Hard Bitch, Look What You've Done and Rollover DJ.

Jet catapulted to fame after Apple used the catchy Are You Gonna Be My Girl for their iPod commercial. That bassline hook and tambourine shakes proved a match with Apple's hip and trendy image, making Jet one of the most exciting new bands on the block.

First single off the new album is Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is.
